Duke Youth Wrestling Camp A Success

Jordan High School and Duke University partnered, for the second straight year, and conducted the Duke Youth Wrestling Camp on June 16-20. The camp was a tremendous success, with 30 campers in attendance.

The following people helped make this a tremendous camp:

Clar Anderson – Duke Head Coach

Philip Davanzo III - Camp Director/Head Coach Jordan High School
Joe Cesari – Assistant Camp Director/Program Director CCWC
Scott Saby – Head Coach/Millbrook High School
James Taylor – Head Coach/Southern Durham High School
Gordon Hill – NCHSAA Official
John Barone – Duke Wrestling Captain

Counselors (in no particular order)
Gary Styles – Southern Durham
Jordan Fearington – Jordan
Bryson Roberts – Jordan
David Fernandez – Jordan
Karl Lim – Jordan
Austin Briggs – Jordan
Chase Schlitz – Jordan
Andrew Anderson – Jordan
Hai Tang – Jordan
William Page – Jordan

These people truly helped make this a remarkable camp. If you look at the number of people who helped out, you got to be impressed. That is a lot of eyes and help. There are not too many camps that have this many people helping out and the ratio that we had!

We will continue to make the camp better, and we look to make it grow. The 2009 Duke Youth Camp is tenatively scheduled for June 15-19.

Please check the gallery for pictures, they are now posted.

Roberts and Anderson Compete at National Duals

Bryson Roberts (135) and Andrew Anderson (285) represented the Jordan Wrestling Team over Memorial Day weekend as part of the Copperheads Wrestling Club, at the NHSCA National Duals.

The Copperheads, which were comprised of some of North Carolina's best, went 3-2 on the weekend. They're only losses came against NJ Elite Black and the PA Brawlers. They defeated PA Rawdogs, Florida Blue, and NE Elite.

Roberts wrestled well despite not winning a match. He wrestled a fourth place finisher from NJ really well. Anderson defeated the Conneticut State Champion.

Both boys gained a lot of experience this past weekend.

Former Jordan Coach Gets the Call

Long time C.E. Jordan High School Wrestling Coach, Randy Rogers, has been selected to be enshrined into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, North Carolina Chapter, on May 18.

From 1976-1991 Coach Rogers had an amazing 197-20-1 dual meet record and in 1990 he led his team to the 4A State Championship. Coach Rogers founded the Bull Durham Holiday Classic, which became the Tiger Holiday Classic held by Chapel Hill High School. He also is responsible for the construction of Jordan’s current wrestling room; which was named in his honor in January 2006. Rogers also served as Jordan’s Athletic Director for many years.

The induction ceremony will be held on May 18, at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill, NC. The ceremony begins at 4:30 with dinner to be at 5:30.
